by Paul McTaggart

Now that you've received your Phox Alkaline Water Filter and have been enjoying the beautifully refreshing taste of mineral-rich, electrolysed drinking water - we thought you might want to know about some things that can enhance the health-boosting capacity of your water even further!

Out with the old, in the with the new...

With water which is clear of all those nasty contaminants, these three infusions can provide a welcome taste twist every so often and bring a range of benefits that come with them.

Lemon

Adding lemon (or lime) to drinking water is not a new phenomenon but it's well worth outlining why so many people opt for adding a slice of citrus to their drinking water. First of all, there's the pleasant change-up in taste, however that doesn't begin to tell the whole story.

Packed full of vitamin-C, lemon infused water has been said to help with weight loss, digestion, skin and detoxification. The vitamin-C content has also been found to shorten symptoms of the common cold, and when added to green tea it can increase your body ability to absorb anti-oxidants by up to 80%.

Many people also choose to add lemon to their water in the morning, this is said to help flush your digestive system and help rehydrate after a long night spent sleeping.

Chia Seeds

Originating in Mexico, chia seeds are the stereotypical superfood. Little known but with unexpected nutritional punch for something so small. These little seeds are packed full of omega-3's, fibre and calcium.

Much like adding lemon, chia seeds can aid with digestion because they are an excellent source of fibre. They are also a great source of protein, containing all 8 essential amino acids. Adding these little miracles into your water is an ideal way to integrate into your diet, as they are much easier to consume after they've been soaked. Although, a word of caution - they can congeal if you add too much.

Mint Leaves

Common in alcoholic cocktails, adding fresh mint leaves can also have a great effect on drinking water. The refreshing, cool taste brings with it a range of little health boosts.

The menthol power of mint leaves is a natural decongestant, and therefore a common treatment for nasal congestion, common colds and respiratory issues. Mint also has small quantities of important minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron which work as a useful compliment to the main mineral intake we receive from our diets.

The cooling effect can also have a refreshing impact on your stomach and aid digestion due to it's ability to activate the salivary glands and stimulate the secretion of digestive enzymes.
